2011 Nevada City Bicycle Classic

Great racing in an historic venue on a beautiful sunny Father's Day. All of the races were really fun to watch.

"The King of Broad Street"

Ian Boswell killed it!! The 90 minute Pro race selected the strongest from the field and a breakaway group of 6 were off the front with 7 laps. That's when Boswell left the others behind.

Most courageous rider was 10 year old Decker Krogh (bib 501).
He was the youngest kid in the juniors category. His frame was way too big. He struggled every lap but refused to give in to 'the dark side' and quit. He was the darling of the crowd and it appeared that he was feeding off of the crowd's enthusiastic cheering urging him on. Later in the afternoon he was riding on the back of one of the course motorcycles chasing the Pros. This kid won't ever forget this father's Day.

The Master Men 35+ and 45+ 1/2/3 race saw Dan Martin, Safeway 1st; Jason Walker, MarcoPro Strava 2nd;, and Chris Phipps, Iron Data Thirsty Bear Cycling 3rd.
Walker was in a break with Phipps and Martin from lap 5. Martin attacked and was solo with 3 to go. Walker took the downhill sprint.

Most dominate performance was Katerina Nash in the Women Pro 1/2/3 race.

She played with the field then unleashed a brutally hard attack and ended up winning by 39 seconds.

Men Cat 3/4 had a field of 47 riders.
By this time we were cruising up the course and visiting the bars. Our view was through a pint of Guinness. The eventual podium was:
          1st-Tobin Ortenblad, Spokesmen Bicycles
2nd- Matt Balzer, Team Indoor Power
3rd- David Mesa, Chica Sexy Beauty Salon

Bottom Line: A really fun event......
